Ok, I could not end the week without giving a shout-out to our friends in Italy, for the wonderful time we had and the places we saw.
So we was lucky enough to only pay flights this time, and stay in one of their Villa’s (Villa Nicola) for free as end of season. But I would definitely recommend their Villa’s to you all. We got a tour of a few while there, and they are all so amazing, you even get a Welcome basket with essential goodies for the first few days (plus a few bits on the fridge!). Richard and Noirin are always at the end of the phone for any problems or advice, and the info they leave in the Villa’s is brilliant.
The area is also amazing, and there are many places you can go if you have a car. I would definitely say go to Lecce in an evening, and a trip to Otranto, Alberobello and Matera (which has just won Cultural city of Europe) are a must for history and architecture lovers.
We stayed at Lendinuso, and as it was out of season, to us at first it looks dead. But there was a bar and a shop there, plus a 2 minute walk to the seafront and beach. In the area, the holiday season ends after August, which is a shame, as to us Brits, there Winter is like our Summer, so they definitely need to pick up on that, as could make extra money.
Please go and browse.
Great hosts, great area, great trips and we will definitely return again one day soon!
